November 2012Telx to Interconnect the Northwest with SEA1 Data Center in Seattle
Interconnection and Colocation Leader to Service the Pacific Northwest Market
New York, New York, November 28, 2012 — Telx®, a leading provider of global interconnectivity, cloud enablement services and datacenter solutions, today announced plans to launch it’s 18th Cloud Connection Center "SEA1" in the Pacific Northwest. The new C3 facility will serve as the regions strongest retail interconnection center in the market. Launched in partnership with Sabey Data Centers, one of the largest privately held data center developer, owner and operator in the United States.
SEA1 will be located in building #4 on Sabey’s Intergate.Seattle-East campus facility in Seattle, Washington. Today’s announcement marks the first expansion for Telx in the Pacific Northwest market, the 13th largest data center market in the U.S. Intergate.Seattle campus comprises approximately 1,450,000 square feet of data center space and is the largest privately owned multi-tenant campus on the West Coast. Intergate.Seattle provides clients access not only to the “Westin” carrier hotel, but also provides for direct access to major national and regional carriers as well as to SIX Seattle’s Internet Exchange for peering. Together with Telx’s interconnection expertise, these network options can improve network resiliency and reduce latency to California and Asia locations by allowing clients to completely bypass the Westin location altogether.
With Sabey’s significant percent share of the Seattle data center market, together Telx and Sabey create a strong relationship that offers a rich ecosystem ready for both interconnection and further retail colocation development with a low total cost of ownership in the most successful data center campuses in the Pacific Northwest.
SEA1 is a fully-conditioned data center property with an estimated $110 million of conditioning investment to date, comprising 114,000 gross square feet and 54,000 square feet of available white space. The facility is currently served with 9MW of power and expandable by leveraging additional power capacity on campus. Telx will deploy substantial additional capital into this facility and employ a scalable facility configuration determined by actual customer density demands. This flexible strategy will allow for cabinets between 5 and 15KW power densities.
Demand for colocation services from the Seattle business community continues to grow. A wide variety of regional companies in verticals ranging from manufacturing, healthcare, information technology and communications, biotechnology and energy are all leveraging new technology initiatives. This strategic expansion enables new and existing Telx clients, to grow and expand their services in the Pacific Northwest and service these initiatives.
“Today’s announcement marks a significant expansion for Telx as we further solidify our West Coast presence and national portfolio of high-quality data centers.” said Chris Downie, President & CFO of Telx. “The growing importance of the Seattle market for customers doing business in-region and as a launching point for Asia makes it an important strategic investment for our long term growth strategy. We are pleased to join in partnership with Sabey on this exciting endeavor. Working with a prestigious and reputable company such as Sabey at such a key location will help our clients expand and deliver applications and services throughout the Northwest.”
“Establishing this relationship with Telx at our Intergate facility in Seattle combines our best-in class property with one of the leading retail colocation providers in the country,’ said John Sabey, President, Sabey Data Centers. “Telx’s impressive array of interconnection services and client roster is a welcome addition to our Intergate facility and we look forward to working with them to expand this ecosystem in Seattle.”
Terms of the lease arrangement have not been disclosed.
