Jim Young is an Operating Partner and a member of the Communications and Digital Infrastructure team. He initially joined Berkshire Partners as an Advisory Director in 2021.  With more than 30 years of experience in the communications industry,  he focuses primarily in the areas of digital infrastructure, fiber, and wireless communications. Jim has served in leadership roles across multiple disciplines and organizations. He most recently was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Crown Castle International’s Fiber Division. For more than a decade prior to that, he was the Chief Operating Officer of Crown Castle overseeing tower operations. Before joining Crown Castle, he served as the Northeast Region Vice President of Network Operations for Sprint/Nextel and started his career with GTE. Jim received a B.A. from DePauw University, a B.S. in Systems Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Masters of Science in Management degree from Purdue University.

Operating Executives are business executives or industry experts well known to Berkshire Partners who participate in specific activities that arise in their areas of expertise, including deal origination, due diligence investigation, investment deliberation, and portfolio company advisory services.
