January 2011Berkshire Partners Announces New Managing Directors

Boston, Massachusetts, January 3, 2011 — Berkshire Partners LLC, the Boston-based private equity firm, today announced that Sharlyn C. Heslam and Elizabeth L. Hoffman were appointed Managing Directors effective January 1, 2011.  They join the twelve current Managing Directors of Berkshire in managing the firm and its affiliated investment funds.

Ms. Heslam, who is the firm's General Counsel, joined Berkshire Partners in 2006 to manage legal matters relating to Berkshire's investment processes and operations.  Prior to joining Berkshire, Ms. Heslam was a corporate partner in the Boston office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges where she represented leading private equity firms in a wide variety of transactions.  Ms. Heslam received a B.A. from Cornell University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. 

Ms. Hoffman joined Berkshire Partners in 2003.  She has worked extensively with Berkshire's communications and business services companies.  Prior to Berkshire, Ms. Hoffman worked for six years in venture capital, including a number of years at the Sprout Group.  She began her career as a financial analyst in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Morgan Stanley & Co.  Ms. Hoffman received a B.A. from Macalester College and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. 

Berkshire's investment staff is comprised of 45 people who have a broad range of backgrounds and experiences, including operations, consulting and finance.  The original team, which came together in the mid-1980s, has expanded significantly as the Firm's capital base and investment scope have grown.
